New Initiative: I-DISC Large Grant Development Workshop Series - Learn to build successful interdisciplinary proposals.
Interdisciplinary team science opens exciting avenues for faculty at Lehigh to address new areas of research, but also comes with new challenges. Among these challenges is adjusting our grant writing skills to fit the requirements of large, interdisciplinary proposals, which can differ substantially from single PI, disciplinary grants. During the coming year, I-DISC is unrolling a series of events to equip our members and research focus groups with the tools to compete for these large external funding opportunities.
The fall term will include a series of programs with Jen Salazar, a grant consultant with Northalder Editing. Designed specifically for I-DISC, this sequence will begin with two webinars to prepare individuals and teams for a day-long workshop to be held at the end of the semester. This series of events will focus on giving attendees information and resources to approach large, interdisciplinary grants. Topics covered will include how review criteria and expectations differ for large proposals, high-level development strategies, proposal work plans and project management tips, and using advance review to improve submissions.
In the spring, I-DISC will build on the initial workshops with a series of activities for teams engaged in developing interdisciplinary proposals. Developed from the NSF Making the Leap to Large workshops that I-DISC leadership attended this year, these structured working sessions will step through a series of foundational exercises focused on leadership, stakeholder alignment, workforce development, and more.
