Katya Scheinberg, former Lehigh ISE faculty member and Co-Director of I-DISC, received one of the highest honors in operations research (OR), being named as an INFORMS Fellow for her contribution and accomplishments in operations research and analytics. The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the largest organization within OR and data sciences, will honor Scheinberg, alongside 11 other named Fellows, at the 2022 INFORMS Annual Meeting being held in Indianapolis in October.
Katya Scheinberg was one of the inaugural Co-Directors of I-DISC—one of three Interdisciplinary Research Institutes formed in April 2018. Scheinberg left Lehigh after being appointed professor of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University in 2019. Scheinberg’s outstanding research, service and leadership has made significant contributions in the field of continuous optimization, in particular derivative-free optimization and the interface between optimization and machine learning.
